There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. Psalm 46:4
Enter into the River of Life. It’s a living river of love, hope, and healing. The river is not of this world and the waters are deep. It flows from the heart of God in heaven, into and out of you. It flows to all whom you come into contact with. It is the Holy Spirit of the Living God. Jesus said in John 7:37-38 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
I’ve tested the waters. I’ve put one toe in to feel the temperature. I’ve gone in ankle-deep. I’ve been up to my waist a few times. Now, I’m in the river, in over my head, being taught how to “breathe underwater.” It is experiencing the impossible made possible, which is supernatural. Living the supernatural life requires faith and child-like trust in your Heavenly Father. If you are a born-again, Holy Spirit-filled believer, you can experience “breathing underwater” too, because God’s Holy Spirit is in you!
God is all around you, just like the waters that you have become immersed in. He will not allow a wild current of external circumstances to overtake you. He won’t allow anything in this life to destroy you or take away the faith, hope and love that you have been given. There will come a day when you will breathe your last breath and enter into eternity to be with Jesus. If you live a life immersed in Him now, you will not be afraid of that day because you have become acquainted with His glorious Presence and have found your home in Him.
People are thirsty for living water. If they do not know Jesus, they attempt to quench their thirst with other things that do not ultimately satisfy. Once they take a drink from the source, Jesus Christ, they experience abundant life that can be shared with others, so that they too can experience the glorious life that is found in Him.
There is a hymn that was written by J.C. Fisher in 1885, called The River of Life. Below is one of the verses and the chorus from this old hymn.
The River of Life
There’s a fountain, a stream
where the thirsty may drink
Of the water of life so free;
They shall suffer no heat
nor of hunger think,
And no sorrow shall they ever see.
By the crystal waters flashing,
I stand redeemed by the blood;
I’ll forever praise my God and King,
For my cleansing in the crimson flood.
So take a plunge into the waters! Let go of fear. It will be there that you will find freedom and joy that you have never known before.
Dear Lord, Take me into Your river and teach me how to navigate the unfamiliar deep waters with confident trust. No matter what happens, I pray that I will choose to remain in the waters and say, “Take me in Your flow to where You want me to go…” I choose to love You with my whole life. May Your will be done O Lord, and not mine; for apart from You - Jesus, I can do nothing.
